Feeling put down by your inner critic?
One of the first things I noticed in my work as a clinical psychologist is the pervasiveness of the inner critic - our inner voice that constantly criticizes us, dictates our choices, and causes us unwarranted stress and anxiety. Often, the voice reflects the kind of messages we received from our caregivers during our formative years. Depending on our upbringing, the inner voice may be subtle or brutal. However, its attacks can make us feel anxious, stressed, and ashamed of ourselves. It’s always there, impairing our actions and limiting our experiences and growth.
But this cycle can be broken, and our initial focus during therapy will be on reducing the influence of your inner critic. I will work with you to help you learn how to prevail over your inner critic and connect with your inner sense of calm. Together, we will work towards healing those parts of yourself that has suffered in the past so that you find the happiness and contentment you deserve.
Feeling overwhelmed by fear and anxiety?
As a clinical psychologist and somatic experiencing practitioner, I encounter on a regular basis the devastation and pain wreaked by past trauma - the sense of not feeling safe in your own body as constant anxiety and a pervasive sense of danger overwhelms you. While the danger may be rooted in the past, the brain perceives it as if it were happening in the present.
Somatic therapy is one of the leading ways to help individuals suffering from past trauma cope, heal, and lead a normal life. Somatic therapy takes a holistic approach that is based on the relationship between the body and the mind in regard to past traumas. It is based on the theory that past traumas upset the autonomic nervous system. This manifests in trauma symptoms like pain, medical issues, and anxiety. Somatic therapy can help with fear and anxiety, provide relief to the autonomic nervous system, and restore the natural goodness that is inherent in all of us.
Don’t be surprised if after some time in somatic coaching, you find yourself with increasing levels of inner freedom. You’ll start feeling more comfortable and safe in your body and you may find new ways to regulate your nervous system. Somatic coaching can help you open up your heart and find greater peace and connection with yourself and with others.
